Clemens Briels – Antipodism in Color and Shape
With his unique style and optimistic visual language, Clemens Briels perfectly aligns with the mission of Vloerkledenwinkel: making art and design accessible in everyday life – through wall hangings and rugs in every size and shape.
Clemens Briels calls his style Antipodism. He draws his images from unknown sources, transforming them with a flair for contrast into daring and distinctive, yet always pleasantly accessible works of art. His work is colorful, with clear Latin American influences, and without respect for the academic straitjacket of perspective.
Briels is a sculptor, painter, furniture designer, and maker of glass sculptures. Yet, his signature remains his cheerful and optimistic outlook on life.
His successful exhibitions followed in quick succession in Europe, North America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Singapore, and even in a museum exhibition in Shanghai.
Clemens Briels received special recognition internationally:
- He was named Official Artist of the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and designed the official poster for the Games.
- The European Union commissioned him to design a sculpture/award for the European Fashion Competition.
